We are back. Pat Cummins leads his troops out to the centre. Mitchell Marsh comes in as the Impact Player for the Lucknow Super Giants, replacing Digvesh Singh. Marsh walks out to open the innings alongside Aiden Markram. SRH are starting with spin in the form of Abhishek Sharma. Let's play...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, the Super Giants will be the happier of the two sides, and with the firepower they possess, they will back themselves to chase this down. There doesn’t seem to be much on offer for the bowlers, but the Sunrisers’ bowling unit will need to keep the stumps in play and remain disciplined. Early wickets will be crucial for the home side. Back in a bit for the chase.
Shardul Thakur is handed the Purple Cap for being the current highest wicket-taker with 6 wickets from 2 games. He is in for a chat. When asked about being unsold at the auction, he replies that such things happen in cricket, but he is glad to have gotten this opportunity. Mentions that there were a few inquires from a couple of franchises to join them, but LSG wanted him first, and Zaheer Khan called him to join this team. Says that it always feels good when you contribute to the team, and he will keep doing these things without seeing the run and wickets columns as he just wants to make an impact. Tells that they wanted to go hard at the batters straightaway and that they wanted to take early wickets in order to maximize their chances in this match.
Aniket Verma and Pat Cummins provided brief sparks, but LSG kept striking back. Towards the end, Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan got together to ensure that they finished well, with just 10 runs coming off the last 2 overs. Thakur, who struck early, returned at the backend to finish with four wickets, while Prince Yadav was the most economical bowler of the night, returning figures of 1 for 29 in his four overs.
After the toss fell LSG's way, Shardul Thakur struck twice in the Powerplay to give his side the ideal start. It could have been even better had Travis Head’s catch been taken, but the missed opportunity didn’t prove too costly. The Super Giants managed to tighten the screws in the middle overs, with Prince Yadav playing a key role in stifling the scoring. Nitish Kumar Reddy struggled to get going and departed just when the Sunrisers needed a push.
A commendable effort from the Lucknow Super Giants! Given the firepower in SRH's batting lineup, they would have taken this total at the start of the day. With timely breakthroughs and disciplined bowling, LSG can be satisfied with a job well done.

On the money from Avesh to close things out! Nails the yorker around off stump, all Harshal Patel can do is jam it out hard down to long off and picks up a single. 7 off the final over and SRH finish with 190/9 on the board!
Goes slower now, Avesh, and tries the wide yorker. Harshal Patel shuffles to the off side and gets low before thumping it without much timing to the right of long off for a couple of runs.
Hits the deck hard and bowls it over off and middle, Simarjeet Singh is rushed as he swings it high off the bat down to long on for one more.
A low full toss, wide of the off stump, Patel can't get under it and hits it down to long off for yet another single.
Pitches the ball up around off, Simarjeet Singh hits the ball back towards the bowler and with some pace on it as well. The ball deflects off the hands and goes onto the leg side. They get a single.
Full and outside off, looking for the blockhole, Harshal smacks the ball down to long off and picks up a single.
Avesh Khan (3-0-38-1) to close out the innings for LSG.

Short of a length, on a tight line around off and gets it to just wobble away, Singh looks to play the ramp but is beaten. Just 3 runs and a wicket off the over!
Full and wide, just misses on the fuller side and this is sliced away in front of covers for just another single.
Full and straight, looking to slide one past the willow, Simarjeet Singh drills it straight back down the ground for a single.
Simarjeet Singh is the last man.
OUT! CAUGHT! Shardul Thakur is having a ball out there and to think that he wasn't even originally picked by any side for this season, wow. Slower one, slightly into the pitch and outside off, taking the ball out of the hitting arc. Mohammad Shami yet again just reaches out for it and goes hard, getting it off the toe end of the bat. The ball lobs up just over covers where Ayush Badoni takes a few steps back and pouches it safely. That also makes it 100 wickets in the IPL for Shardul.
Banged in quick and short, wide outside off, Mohammad Shami stays rooted to the crease and just looks to throw his hands at it but is well beaten.
Gets away with it! A juicy full toss, wide outside off, Harshal Patel goes hard at it but ends up just slashing it to deep point for a single.

Full and wide again, flirting with the tramline, Harshal gets low and reaches out before mistiming the drive to covers for a single.
Slower one, a bit into the pitch and outside off, Harshal reaches out and toe-ends it wide of covers and down to wide long off for a couple of runs.
Full and wide again, turns out to be a low full toss, swatted away to deep point for a single.
Mohammad Shami comes out to the middle.
OUT! CAUGHT! Gone this time and Avesh Khan picks up his first wicket. Avesh goes full and wide and nails it in the blockhole. Pat Cummins waits back and looks to use the pace on the ball by opening the face of the bat and gliding it away but the ball goes off the face of the bat and straight to short third where Digvesh Singh takes a sharp catch. This wicket could be the one that keeps SRH under the 200-run mark.
SIX! Pat Cummins is on fire here! Off-pace delivery, just no intent behind it, on a length and on off, Cummins holds his shape and hammers it back over the bowler's head for a biggie. 3 sixes off 3 balls for Cummins so far!
Goes full and hones in at the off stump, gets the ball to tail in a bit as well, Patel jams it across to mid-wicket and picks up a single.

SIX! Up and over! Shardul goes into the pitch again, bowling it well short and well outside off, Pat Cummins sees the width and throws his hands to loft it over deep cover-point for a biggie.
Commentary
Right then, that is it from this game and we now start to head into another weekend in IPL 2025 with a bang. The next game is dubbed as the 'Southern Derby' and it is a fiery fixture as Chennai Super Kings welcome Royal Challengers Bengaluru to the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai in Match number 8. That game will be played on Friday, 28 March and will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but as usual, you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Cheers!
Shardul Thakur is PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his impressive 4/34, and these are also his best figures in IPL. He says that he had signed to play County cricket, but while he was playing the Ranji Trophy Knockouts, Zaheer Khan called him to join LSG as they were looking for a potential replacement for the injured seamers. He feels that the ups and downs happen in cricket, and he is happy to be back in the IPL and make an impactful contribution to the team’s win. His hopes have always been high despite not getting picked in the auction. Mentions that there was a swing up front, and he bowled those full tosses as he didn’t want to give any chances to the batter with wide outside off bowling. States that bowlers have to work really hard on these kind of pitches, and he thinks that pitches should be prepared for both batters and bowlers to keep in mind to have a balanced game. He tells that the pitch, along with the impact player rule, isn’t helping the bowlers much in IPL.
Lucknow Super Giants skipper, Rishabh Pant, expresses a big relief in getting the win and emphasizes the importance of sticking to the processes they set from the start. He mentions that they don’t get too high after a win or too low after a loss, instead focusing on taking it one game at a time. He acknowledges that injuries to their pacers were a concern but highlights how Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan, and Prince Yadav stepped up when needed. He adds that Nicholas Pooran has been given the freedom to express himself, which has paid off. He is pleased with the group’s preparation and feels the team is coming together well. Says that while they haven’t played their best cricket yet, they are focused on moving forward one step at a time.
The Presentation ceremony...
Nicholas Pooran, the wrecker-in-chief of that chase, is up for a quick chat as he also becomes the leading run-getter of the season. Adds that he doesn’t plan that well for hitting those sixes, instead, he tries to get into a good position and tries to play the ball on its merit. He feels that he got a nice opportunity today to bat, and it was a nice wicket to bat on. Mentions that they made strategies before coming out here as this ground generally offers good batting surfaces, and they knew that if they didn’t lose too many wickets in Powerplay, then they would chase down any total. States that about his incredible bat speed as he is blessed with this natural talent and is happy to get runs. Concludes that it is a long tournament, and it is nice to see Mitchell Marsh getting form and he likes to bat with him and got an important partnership with him.
The SRH skipper, Pat Cummins, is in for a chat. He mentions that the wicket played a bit differently compared to the other day, but still remained a very good surface. Shares that the initial target was anything over 200, but with the cutters gripping a little, they are content with how they went about their innings. He acknowledges that LSG bowled really well and that a few things didn’t go their way, but in the end, they are happy to have reached 190. He adds that they always hope for one batter to kick on and get a big score, like Ishan Kishan did in the previous game. States that while they will review the game to see what could have been done better, it’s a long tournament. He adds that it's about riding the highs and lows, and they will move on quickly from this loss.
Earlier in the game, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and put the Sunrisers into bat, which everyone thought was a bit risky, given the recent history of the home side batting first at this venue. However, Shardul Thakur gave Pant a much-needed peace of mind as he picked up a couple of big wickets in consecutive deliveries. Travis Head counter-attacked well but got out before his 50. The spinners and Prince Yadav kept things relatively quiet, and with the unfortunate run out of Heinrich Klaasen, SRH needed someone to up the tempo. There were a couple of quickfire cameos but not a single big score that could propel them to a defendable total. Thakur and Avesh closed things out well and kept SRH below the 200 mark. In reply, it was another massive stand between Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh that set up the chase for the away team, who finished things off with 23 balls to spare. Let's now head to a couple of interviews...
Sunrisers Hyderabad were under-par with the runs they had on the board and needed wickets in the Powerplay. Mohammad Shami sent Markram packing early on, but that was as good as it got for SRH as they faced a barrage of 4s and 6s from Pooran and Marsh, and Nicky P didn't spare a single bowler. Skipper Pat Cummins did provide some hope with a couple of wickets, and then the likes of Zampa and Harshal also chimed in, but the boundaries didn't stop for more than 10 balls and it all ended pretty soon for the Sunrisers as their former player, Abdul Samad hit an unbeaten 22 off 8 balls.
Needing 191 for the win, even on a surface where the average score in recent times has been well over 200, can be tricky, and you need runs in the Powerplay. And even after losing Aiden Markram early on, LSG managed to do just that. Nicholas Pooran was ruthless, and Mitchell Marsh got the boundaries away whenever required as the two stitched up a 116-run stand off just 43 balls. They did start to lose wickets at regular intervals, but Abdul Samad came in towards the end and just knocked off the required runs in a flash, along with David Miller, who hit the winning runs. Pooran was the star with a stellar 70 off just 26 balls!
The Super Giants are off the mark in IPL 2025 and even though there were a few jitters late on, they had done more than enough in the first half of the chase that it didn't matter much in the end and Abdul Samad even made sure that the net run rate also got a nice little boost. The Sunrisers, though, suffer a first home defeat of the season and will be disappointed with that effort overall.
FOUR! And that's that! Lucknow Super Giants have their first win of the season! Ishan starts with a flighted delivery from around the wicket, on off, Miller leans ahead and goes inside out over cover. The fielder in the deep gets around to his left but the ball evades him. The Super Giants win by 5 wickets with 23 balls to spare!
Strategic break! Right then, just a couple of runs needed for Lucknow Super Giants to pick up a huge win away from home and they have been ahead during the whole course of the game, right from the moment Shardul Thakur got those two wickets early on. With the bat as well, the top order has done enough to ease the pressure and SRH are heading towards a rare home defeat in the last two seasons.

SIX! Just over! Off-cutter from Patel, on a length, on off, Abdul Samad does not go through the shot completely and checks his lofted stroke. Gets enough elevation on it to clear the leaping Abhinav Manohar at long off for a six. LSG need 15 more runs.
Pitches it up, on off, Samad knocks it down to mid off.
FOUR! Gets it through! On a back of a length, around off, Samad gets on his toes and rides the bounce. Punches it all along the ground and beats the diving extra cover to his left for a boundary.
Bowled from well wide of the crease, on off, on a length, Miller eases the drive in front of long on for a run.
On a length, outside off, Abdul extends his hands and drives it past cover for a single.
OUT! TAKEN! An unusaul way to get out! Harshal looks to go full but gets it all wrong. A high full toss, on middle, Pant has a swipe across the line but gets a leading edge that goes down to short third. Shami takes it around his waist, but Pant is asked to wait as the third umpire is called into action. The replays show that Pant had taken a couple of steps down the track, and the tracker is used to determine the trajectory. It comes out as a fair delivery, with the ball passing below the waist. Pant goes for a run-a-ball 15 with LSG needing 27 runs off 35 balls.
Abdul Samad walks out to bat now.
Is that too high? Rishabh Pant is caught here, but the square leg umpire seems to have deemed it a NO BALL for height. However, the third umpire is called in. Initial replays show that the ball is around chest height, but Pant is well out of his crease and is a bit crouched as well. The third umpire then checks the trajectory of the ball to confirm things. Ball Tracker confirms that the ball was going down and would have been below Pant's waist in a normal stance. OUT!
Wide! Sprays a low full toss down leg from around the wicket, Rishabh stays inside the line to help it away but misses.

OUT! CAUGHT! Pat Cummins is keeping Sunrisers Hyderabad alive in this game with these timely wickets! He picks up another wicket and a good inning of Mitchell Marsh comes to an end here as he goes for 52 runs off 31 balls. Pat bowls it fuller, and around off, Mitchell Marsh comes forward a bit and looks to loft it down the ground with a straight bat. The timing is not great as the ball goes off the bottom part of the bat to long on where Nitish Kumar Reddy takes an easy catch.
On a good length, around off, Marsh looks to drive it but misses.

He comes in from around the wicket and bowls it a bit fuller, angling into the stumps, Nicholas Pooran shuffles across a bit to cover the line and looks to flick it to the leg side. Simarjeet Singh chases it and slides to stop it. He flicks it in before going over the ropes in momentum. The ball still rolls away towards the boundary but Simarjeet does well to come back and collect the ball, well inside the fence as the third umpire checks the replays and confirms it. Three runs taken.
Has Simarjeet Singh done enough to save the boundary? He puts in a well-timed slide to prevent the ball from touching the fence. He goes over the ropes but smartly releases the ball in time before getting back in to fire a throw. A clean effort, and he manages to save a run for his side!

Commentary

OUT! Short and well outside off, Travis Head presses back and punches it to long off for a single.
Nagging length, around off, Head misses his cut shot.
FOUR! EASY PICKINGS! Short again, wide outside off, offers too much width, Travis Head goes back and slashes it in the gap towards backward point for a boundary.
A comedy of errors from LSG! Singh bowls it short and on the pads, Nitish Kumar Reddy tickles it towards short fine leg and runs off for a quick single. Prince Yadav makes a fumble there, which allows the batters to take the second run. Ravi Bishnoi mops it up in the deep and throws it at the bowler's end where the backing fielder Ayush Badoni fails to collect cleanly. The batters run off for the third in meantime.

Tossed up, another googly, outside off, Head punches it to cover.
TOUGH CHANCE! One of those that either stick or they don't! Serves the googly, short in length, on off, Head presses back to force it down the ground. The bat turns in his hand and Head ends up hitting it uppishly to the bowler's right. Ravi sticks out his right hand but the ball does not stick in his grasp.
A slight halt in the play as the last stop from Ravi Bishnoi has injured the little finger on one of his hands. He is feeling the sting a bit and calls for the physio. Hopefully, he is fine. All fine and we are good to continue...
Flatter and straighter, on middle, Head smashes it back towards the bowler. Ravi gets a hand on the ball and stops it. Seems to have injured himself in the process.
SIX! Salt into the wounds! Dishes out a googly, on the shorter side, outside off, Travis Head holds his shape and latches into it. Whacks it over cover for a six.
On off, on a length, Nitish Kumar Reddy pushes it wide of cover and takes a quick single.
DROPPED! Nicholas Pooran shells it! How costly will this drop prove to be for LSG? It is the googly from Bishnoi, full and outside off, Head is made to reach out. He looks to go down the ground. Skies it towards mid on where Pooran backtracks and does manage to settle under it. Tries to take it near his chest with the fingers pointing downwards, but the ball pops out of his grasp. The batters cross for one.
Ravi Bishnoi comes in to bowl the final over of the Powerplay.

Digvesh spots the batter backing away and follows him, on a nagging length, Nitish Kumar Reddy places it nicely in the gap to the left of deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.
Floated up, fuller in length, at the stumps, Head loses his shape again as he swings to go down the ground. Drags it aerially towards mid on where David Miller dives ahead but the ball drops short of him. Just a single.
Drops it short again, on off, Head reaches out and thumps it to the right of long off. Aiden Markram gets across to his right at long off and dives to prevent the boundary. Two runs taken.
Pushed through, on a nagging length, on middle, Travis backs away and punches it to cover.
Slower through the air and the length continues to be a bit too short, on middle, Nitish Kumar Reddy presses back for the pull. Miscues it in front of long on for one.
NO BALL! A half-tracker, on off, Head backs away and goes for the pull. Loses his shape in the process and mistimes the shot to deep mid-wicket for a single. Uh, oh, the siren goes off. Singh has overstepped. Free Hit coming up.
Short and flat, on off, Nitish waits back and punches it to long on for a single.

FOUR! Up and over! Off-pace delivery, at 119.8 kph, outside off, on a length, Head reaches out and carves it over cover for a boundary. 18 runs off the over.
Swing and a miss! Avesh drags the length back and tightens the line up a bit, Head slashes at it but the ball sails over his bat.
SIX! Clean strike! Angling across from over the wicket, on the fuller side, Head gets the width he needs and smokes it over extra cover for the second six of the over.
On a back of a length, on off, NKR hits it on the rise back past the bowler. Abdul Samad from mid off goes after it and cuts it off with a slide. A single taken.
Good response from Avesh! Executes the yorker, outside off, Head jams it out in front of cover and gets to the other end quickly.

FOUR! Classy shot! Pitched up, a bit of away shape, Nitish Kumar Reddy leans into the shot and drives it all along the ground between cover and mid off for a boundary.
Keeps it away from the batter's arc, near the tramline on off, on a short of a length, Head reaches out and slaps it to deep point for a single.
Has it come off the bat? Shardul Thakur goes up in appeal but gets no support from anyone else. Given as wide for height. Dug in short, but this sails over the batter's head. Head hops to ramp it over the keeper but misses.
Wide! Slower one and pushed beyond the tramline on off, Head lets it go.
FOUR! Easy pickings! Low full toss, a bit of tail back in, on off and middle, Head firms the drive back past the bowler to his right with a straight bat for a boundary.
Safely negotiated by Reddy! Nails the yorker, at the base of the middle stump, Nitish Kumar Reddy gets his bat down in time and digs it out wide off mid on for a single.
Nitish Kumar Reddy walks in to face the hat-trick ball.
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Two in two for Shardul Thakur, and this is just the start the Super Giants were after! Not a wicket-taking delivery by any means as this is on the pads, on a good length. Ishan goes for the tickle, but the ball grazes the bat on the way before brushing the thigh pad. It goes behind the keeper, and Rishabh Pant collects it by moving to his right. They don't appeal, but Thakur goes up, and the finger is raised. Kishan knows he is a goner and starts walking as soon as the finger is raised. Sport is a great leveller, isn't it? A century in the previous game, but a golden duck tonight for Ishan!
Ishan Kishan, the centurion from the last game, is in at number 3.
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Shardul Thakur gives LSG early success! A cross-seam delivery, banged into the deck, over middle, Abhishek Sharma swivels for the ball, but the ball gets big on him. Gets this one high on the bat, and it goes only as far as deep backward square leg, where Nicholas Pooran runs in and takes a safe catch near his chest.

FOUR! Swatted! At 130.7 kph, on a short of a length, outside off, Head takes a step back and drags it between mid-wicket and mid on for a boundary.
Nails the wide yorker, on off, Head reaches out to squeeze it out on the off side. Gets an under edge and the ball dribbles behind. The keeper Rishabh Pant does well to cut it off with a dive to his left.
Not that far away from the fielder in the deep! Fuller in length, slanting away, Abhishek Sharma throws his hands at the delivery. Slices it aerially towards deep backward point where David Miller runs in off the ropes but the ball drops short. They cross.
At the stumps, on a nagging length, punched with a straight bat to mid off by Sharma.
Going across the left-hander, a bit of extra bounce, on off, Abhishek steers it from the crease to short third.
FOUR! Nicely done! Not a bad ball by any means. This is in the channel on off, on a short of a length, Abhishek Sharma waits back and opens the bat face to glide to the right of deep backward point for a boundary.
Who will bowl from the other end? It will be Avesh Khan.

Another full toss, on off, Head stays deep in the crease and punches it to deep point for a single.
Missed out! Thakur looks to go full again but ends up serving a low full toss, Travis slices it straight to the man at backward point.
FOUR! Powered away and Travis Head is underway! This is on a length, on middle, Travis gets the front leg out of the way and muscles it back over the bowler's head for the first boundary of the night.
Honing in at the stumps, fuller and swinging back in, Head plays it with a straight bat to mid on.
Intent straight away! Shardul starts with a full delivery, angling across, Head cracks the drive along the ground towards extra cover where Ayush Badoni dives to his right and makes the stop.
We are all set to get the game started! The umpires are out in the middle and so are the players of the Super Giants. It will be the dynamic pairing of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head to open the innings for the Sunrisers. Shardul Thakur has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...
Heinrich Klaasen is in for a chat. He says that it has been fantastic and the way the boys have been hitting the ball without taking any pressure is just like last season. Adds that they know the ground and the batters play aggressively with the bowlers receiving a taste of the medicine as well but try to hang on. Mentions that the team that wins the majority of the home games stands a chance of going through, and that's what their aim is. Ends by saying that he is very happy to be a batter.
Impact players nominated by Lucknow Super Giants - Shahbaz Ahmed, M Siddharth, Mitchell Marsh, Himmat Singh and Akash Singh.
Lucknow Super Giants (Playing XI) - Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant (C/WK), David Miller, Ayush Badoni, Abdul Samad (In for Mitchell Marsh), Shardul Thakur, Prince Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan (In for Shahbaz Ahmed), Digvesh Singh.
Impact players nominated by Sunrisers Hyderabad - Sachin Baby, Jaydev Unadkat, Zeeshan Ansari, Adam Zampa and Wiaan Mulder.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (Unchanged Playing XI) - Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen (WK), Aniket Verma, Abhinav Manohar, Pat Cummins (C), Simarjeet Singh, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Shami.
The captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins, mentions that the toss outcome does not change the approach of their batting unit. Mentions that high-scoring games are great fun and you know what you are signing up for coming into this tournament. Adds that they want to win the games as a unit and have regrouped as a bowling unit from the last game. Informs that they are going with the same team.
Rishabh Pant, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, says that they will bowl first because of the way the team is set up and they want to chase. Adds that it depends on the team combination whether to bat first or chase and their side is set up to chase. Informs that Avesh Khan comes back and Shahbaz Ahmed misses out. Ends by saying that it doesn't matter how many runs they are chasing, the only thing is that they do chase it down.
TOSS - Lucknow Super Giants have won the toss and they will BOWL first.
PITCH REPORT - Deep Dasgupta is near the deck. Mentions that this venue has been a paradise for batters, with an average of 24 sixes per game since the last year, and the last match saw a staggering 30 maximums. He shares that the boundary dimensions are 69 meters and 67 meters square, with a longer 79-meter boundary straight down the ground. He says the surface is fresh but completely barren, with no blade of grass in sight. Adds that it’s a firm wicket, though the good-length areas at both ends are slightly abrasive, which could come into play as the ball gets older. States that the pitch has a distinct mosaic pattern, and as the ball gets older, it could come onto the bat slower. Reckons that there won't be much dew and feels that batting first is the way to go.
With the pitch at this ground once again expected to be flat and good for batting, we are in for another high-scoring affair. The key to victory will be which team’s bowling attack can hold their nerve under pressure. Both sides are packed with aggressive batters, so expect fireworks right from the first over. You should get ready for another thrilling contest and stay tuned, as the toss and playing XIs are just moments away!
Lucknow Super Giants, on the other hand, have also stacked their team with power hitters but are struggling with their bowling unit. Their frontline pacers have been hit by injuries, leading them to rope in Shardul Thakur, who did well in his first game by picking up a couple of wickets. However, the lack of depth in their bowling remains a big issue. Avesh Khan has now joined the squad after recovery and is likely to play today, giving LSG a much-needed boost. With the bat, the destructive duo of Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran, both of whom were brilliant against DC, smashed quick fifties in their last match. However, their skipper, Rishabh Pant and former SRH captain Aiden Markram will be keen to fire. Pant, in particular, will be eager to make a statement after a disappointing outing in the first game. LSG’s strategy is clear - out-bat the opposition, but unless their bowling finds answers, it could be another tough night for them.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have built a squad that thrives on aggression, especially at the top. Their opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have been sensational, tearing apart bowlers in the Powerplay with their fearless approach. Head has been in sublime form since last season, and Abhishek continues to establish himself as one of the most dangerous young batters in the league. The addition of Ishan Kishan at No. 3 has only strengthened their firepower, and he announced himself with a blazing century in his debut game for SRH. And then, there's Heinrich Klaasen, arguably one of the most destructive finishers in T20 cricket today. While their batting has been near-perfect, SRH’s bowling remains a concern. Their attack, led by skipper Pat Cummins, features proven wicket-takers like Mohammad Shami, Adam Zampa, and Harshal Patel, but they conceded runs heavily against RR. With Hyderabad's pitch being a batting paradise, the bowlers will need to step up and tighten their lines.
Hello and welcome to the seventh match of the Indian Premier League 2025, coming to you from the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, where the home team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, take on the Lucknow Super Giants. These two teams have had contrasting starts to their campaign, where SRH absolutely demolished the Rajasthan Royals with a record-breaking total of 286 in their opening match, while LSG found themselves on the losing end of a thrilling contest against Delhi Capitals despite putting up a strong total of 209. Adding to the spice of this fixture, if you remember, SRH handed LSG a humiliating defeat last season, chasing down a total of 166 runs in just 9.4 overs. With both teams possessing explosive batting lineups, this match has all the makings of a high-scoring spectacle.
... MATCH DAY ...
The 2025 Indian Premier League is in full swing, and the action continues with match number 7 as Sunrisers Hyderabad lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. It is a battle between two sides that have had contrasting starts to their campaigns. SRH came out all guns blazing in their opener, much like they did in 2024. Ishan Kishan's scintillating century powered them to 286, and while their bowlers eventually sealed the win, there were concerns. Harshal Patel was the standout performer, but the likes of Mohammad Shami, Pat Cummins, and Adam Zampa found themselves on the receiving end and will be eager to make amends. Meanwhile, for Lucknow Super Giants, the Rishabh Pant era began with a heart-wrenching defeat. Against Delhi Capitals, they found themselves in commanding positions multiple times but failed to capitalize, allowing DC to chase down 210. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran made their presence felt with impactful knocks, but Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant, and Ayush Badoni failed to leave a mark and will need to step up. However, it is their bowling that will face the real test against SRH’s formidable batting unit. They do have the option of bringing in Shamar Joseph, but that would mean sacrificing one of their three overseas batters. If they stick with their current combination, the onus will be on Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, and M Siddharth to step up against an SRH batting unit that thrives on aggressive strokeplay. The previous game at Hyderabad between SRH and RR saw a staggering match aggregate of 528 runs, and a similarly high-scoring contest could be on the cards under the lights. Will the Men in Orange make it two from two, or can the Super Giants bounce back and get their first points on the board? We shall find out together.
