Commentary

That’s a wrap on this contest as Gujarat Titans hand Royal Challengers Bengaluru their first defeat of the season with a dominant all-round performance. Next up in the Indian Premier League, the action shifts to Eden Gardens, where Kolkata Knight Riders will lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 15 on Thursday, 3rd of April 2025. The first ball will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but don’t forget to tune in early for all the pre-match buildup. Until then, it's goodbye and see you soon for another thrilling encounter!

Mohammed Siraj is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his outstanding spell of 3/19. He says he was emotional and nervous at the start, going up against RCB, but as soon as he got the ball in hand, it all went well. Mentions that the break he got from cricket gave him enough time to boost his confidence and understand where he was lacking. Adds that Ashish Nehra gives him a lot of freedom to go out and express himself, and he learns from the rest of the bowlers in the side too. Concludes that as a bowler, it is mandatory to have the belief to perform well, no matter which wicket they play on.

The captain of the Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, expresses his delight about the dominating win. Adds the wicket in Bengaluru plays differently every time. Says sometimes it plays like a 250 wicket, and mentions it was helping the pacers a bit and was stopping at times as well. Says that they knew if they pick early wickets, they will get ahead in the game. On the fielding errors, he says it was disappointing, but you have to grab the opportunities. Says they batted professionally and were clinical throughout. Adds it is all about adaptability, and he is hopeful to continue with this momentum.

It's time for the Presentation Ceremony...

Jos Buttler from Gujarat Titans is in for a chat next. He says he really enjoyed and the bowlers bowled really well, and had they fielded well, they would have had to chase an even smaller total. On his dropped catch, he says he was very embarrassed by that and wanted to make up for it with the bat. Mentions that he tries to play with positive intent after a few gloomy months and wants to do well for the new franchise. Concludes that they as a team have got a lot of bases covered.

The captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajat Patidar feels they fell 15-20 runs short, but admits that early wickets caused a lot of harm to them. Mentions that the intent was good, but they lost too many in the Powerplay. Adds that their bowlers bowled well. Says they put the hard work for a total which was a bit challenging to defend. Highlights that taking the match till the 18th over was amazing to watch from the bowlers. Mentions it was amazing to see the way Jitesh Sharma, Liam Livingstone, and Tim David batted in the backend. He is confident about the batting line up and hopes to be on the positive side next time around.

Earlier in the game, Gujarat Titans came out firing, wreaking havoc with the new ball and reducing RCB to a precarious 42/4. Just when the innings seemed to be slipping away, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma came together to steady the ship, forging a crucial 52-run stand. Livingstone then shifted gears, unleashing his power-hitting to notch up a vital half-century, while a late flourish from Tim David provided RCB with the finishing kick they needed, pushing them to a respectable 169. For Gujarat Titans, Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler, leading the charge with three crucial wickets while Sai Kishore chipped in with two in the middle overs.

For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, it was a day to forget. Their batting faltered early, and their bowlers struggled to build any real pressure. While there were some positives to take away, they fell short in key areas and will need to regroup quickly. As for the Gujarat Titans, this was a near-perfect win, though their fielding lapses remain a concern they will need to address moving forward.

Sai Sudharsan was unfortunate to fall just one run short of a well-deserved fifty, but Buttler ensured there were no stutters. He went on to reach his half-century and, with Sherfane Rutherford at the other end, finished the job with ease, sealing the win in style.

Chasing a modest 170, especially at a venue like Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans always had the upper hand. Their openers took a measured approach early on, assessing conditions before shifting gears. While Shubman Gill fell cheaply, Sai Sudharsan once again showcased his class, anchoring the innings with yet another crucial knock. His 75-run partnership with Jos Buttler broke the back of the chase, with the latter providing the firepower.

Gujarat Titans edge past Royal Challengers Bengaluru, handing the hosts their first defeat of the season while notching up their second consecutive victory. It was a clinical all-round effort from GT, dismantling an RCB side that came into their first home game brimming with confidence. They win by 8 wickets and with 13 balls to spare.

SIX! IT'S OVER! Rutherford finishes off in style for GT! Banged halfway on the pitch from Hoff, on off, Sherfane Rutherford is quick to read the length, shapes up with a stable base and nails the pull shot over deep backward square leg for a huge six. Gujarat Titans win by 8 wickets and register their second win of the season.

17.41

17.26

SIX! Jos in a hurry to finish this, but that was some outrageous shot! On a nagging length, outside off, nipping back into the batter. Jos Buttler tries to attempt for a reverse ramp, but top-edges it over deep fine leg for a six.

After an exceptional bowling display earlier in the evening, their batting unit has backed it up brilliantly. Jos Buttler is leading from the front, expertly guiding the chase, while Sherfane Rutherford provides solid support at the other end. For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, it has been a tough outing, especially with the runs they leaked in the middle overs. Now, they find themselves staring at their first defeat of the season, needing nothing short of a miracle to pull this one back. Barring something extraordinary, it’s only a matter of when, not if, GT wraps this up. Bhuvneshwar Kumar comes back into the attack.

Commentary

Welcome back for the all-important run chase. The two umpires make their way out to the middle. RCB players can be seen in the last-minute team huddle before they spread out to the field. Skipper Shubman Gill is accompanied by Sai Sudharsan, as the two walk out to open for Gujarat Titans. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is marking his run-up to bowl the first over for RCB. Sudharsan to face the first ball. And off we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Well then, 170 is the magic number for Gujarat Titans to beat RCB in their den. Remember, RCB's home record has been a bit so-so recently. But also, with only three games out of the last seven being won by the team chasing, this sets up for an exciting run chase ahead. All depends on how RCB's new-ball bowlers operate. Stay tuned as we will be back with GT's response with the bat in a few minutes.

Gujarat Titans' Sai Kishore is in for a quick chat. He says bowling into the wicket with spin was assisting the spinners and he got decent purchase when bowling. Adds that a player has to keep evolving in T20 cricket, and he has been working hard on his delivery, that he calls a carrom ball, which dips in.

Thanks to Livingstone's late explosion, backed by a quickfire fifty of his own, and Tim David's useful cameo, RCB managed to extract 64 runs in the final five overs. They took 20 runs off Rashid's last over, and another 16 from the final over of the innings, with Tim David providing a spectacular finish.

Livingstone got a lifeline early in his innings when he was dropped, but Sai Kishore came through for GT by breaking the 52-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Despite some fielding mistakes and a couple of dropped catches, GT kept picking up wickets as RCB found themselves in trouble, slipping from 94/4 to 105/6 with the death overs coming up.

When Ishant Sharma took out captain Rajat Patidar right after the Powerplay, Gujarat Titans had everything going their way with the ball. Working through tough conditions, the big-hitting pair of Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma took a more measured approach as they built a recovery stand. Jitesh made the most of any loose deliveries, launching a mini-counterattack and forming a half-centurion partnership.

Gujarat Titans' pace attack hit the ground running with Mohammed Siraj running the show. He nabbed two RCB batters, including Salt, who survived a dropped catch from Buttler but couldn't stick around much longer. Arshad Khan stepped up as the third seamer and dismissed Virat Kohli for not many, helping GT call the shots with their pinpoint bowling and leaving RCB struggling at 38/3 after six overs.

A handy 32 off 18 from Tim David has helped RCB to post 169 runs on the board. After a slippery start, losing their top brass way too early, they would be happy to get these many runs on the board. But full marks to the GT bowlers, especially the pacers, who asked all the tough questions to this RCB batting unit that bats deep. Mohammed Siraj led this bowling unit with perfection and Sai Kishore too, bowled smartly, giving absolutely nothing, with the two sharing 5 wickets between them, and conceding just 41 runs from their collective eight overs.

OUT! TIMBER! Prasidh Krishna gets a wicket to cap off his outstanding bowling tonight! Nails the yorker with pin-point accuracy on off. Tim David makes some room and unwinds for a heave, but just wasn't ready for this ball. He fails to get his bat down in time and the off-stump goes on a cartwheel. Tim David does his part, though, with his cameo of 32 (18) as Royal Challengers Bengaluru end the innings at 169/8.

19.54

FOUR! Fortutious! Prasidh Krishna goes into the deck and angles it into the batter, Tim David is way too late on the pull but just about manages to get some bat to help it on the way to fine leg fence for four more. 16 off the first 5 balls already!

19.46

SIX! That's monstrous! Short of a length again, outside off this time, Tim David slaps it over deep cover for a six. Ending on a high are David and RCB!

19.34

FOUR! Streaky but Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Tim David won't mind one bit! Short of a length, on off, Tim David has a hack across the line and gets an inside edge that falls wide of the leg stump and beats Jos Buttler to his left for a boundary.

19.22

In the air, but falls safe! Short of a length, on middle, Tim David throws everything at it and hits it miles into the night sky behind the bowler. Sai Kishore tries to go for the catch, running to his left, but it lands between 4 converging fielders and the batters take two runs.

19.10

Short one, on middle, Tim David miscues his pull to the vacant mid-wicket region and sets off for the run. Halfway through it decides to return back to the crease. A dot to start the final over.

Who will bowl the final over? Ishant? Arshad? or Prasidh? 'Skiddy' Prasidh Krishna to wrap up the first innings. He is 3-0-10-0.

Bangs it on a short of a length and outside off, Liam Livingstone presses ahead and looks to slap it through the off side, but the extra bounce does him no good. He gets an outside edge to the keeper Jos Buttler, who takes a simple catch to his right. A fine knock of 54 (40) from Liam Livingstone comes to an end, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru lose their 7th for 150 runs.

18.11

A low full toss, on off, Tim David pushes it to the left of the bowler for a single.

SIX! Not in total control, but still manages to clear the fence. Sai Kishore keeps it short and on off, Tim David pulls it off the upper half of the bat but gets it over deep mid-wicket fence for a six.

16.21

Full and around off, Liam Livingstone nudges it to point and takes a run.

Slower one, full and on off, Liam Livingstone angles it to short third.

STRATEGIC BREAK. After a good counterattack from Jitesh Sharma in the mid overs, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have again slipped on their way from 94/4 to 104/6, losing one too many in clusters. Despite Rashid Khan looking a shade of what he actually is, Sai Kishore has kept things really tight and snagged a couple of crucial wickets as well. One thing GT might not be happy about is their ground fielding. They have shelled as many as three catches, but luckily, have also chipped in with wickets regularly. Now then, with two world-class power hitters who don't need any introduction, RCB will expect Liam Livingstone and Tim David to finish off strongly, batting through till the end. Sai Kishore (3-0-12-2) to continue after the break.

OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! This time, Rahul Tewatia redeems himself with a fine catch! Half of the RCB side is into the dugout now. Sai takes the pace off from the ball, and gives it more air, and also keeps the ball away from the batter's arc, around the off stump line. Jitesh Sharma comes dancing down the track to loft it downtown, but mistimes the shot miles up in the night sky. A huge appeal from Rashid and Buttler for LBW, but 'No' says the umpire. A bit of a discussion among them as skipper Gill too joins in. With 4 seconds left on the timer, he reviews it. Looped on a yard behind the fuller length from Rashid, on the stumps, Liam Livingstone sits across and tries to slog it aerially, but misses and wears on the pads. No bat involved on the UltraEdge and the Ball Tracking saves Liam Livingstone with the impact being umpire's call, and missing to hit the off pole. GT burn both their reviews now.

STRATEGIC BREAK. An interesting phase of play is going on. With the top brass of the RCB batting unit sent back into the dugout cheaply, Jitesh Sharma has launched a little counterattack to keep the scoring rate in decent territory. Still, a lot of work needs to be done and Sharma, along with Liam Livingstone, will look to bat as look as possible. Full marks to the GT pacers, though, as despite the absence of their premier pacer Kagiso Rabada, the pace quartet led by Siraj has been right on the money. In all readiness for the action to begin in Bengaluru! The two umpires make their way out to the middle and are followed by the openers for RCB, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt. Gujarat Titans, after a final huddle, spread across to take the field. Mohammed Siraj has the new ball in hand and is at the top of his mark, raring to go against his former team. Siraj to Salt first up. Here we go!

Impact players nominated by Gujarat Titans - Sherfane Rutherford, Glenn Phillips, Anuj Rawat, Mahipal Lomror, Washington Sundar.

Gujarat Titans (Playing XI) - Shubman Gill (C), Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler (WK), Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Arshad Khan (in for Kagiso Rabada), Rashid Khan, Sai Kishore, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ishant Sharma (in for Sherfane Rutherford).

Impact players nominated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Suyash Sharma, Rasikh Salam, Manoj Bhandage, Jacob Bethell, Swapnil Singh.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Playing XI) - Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (C), Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Yash Dayal.

Rajat Patidar the skipper of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, says they would have bowled first had they won the toss, but reckons the surface will stay the same and they will look to play well. Mentions that the way individuals are chipping in with positive intent makes his work as a captain very easy. Lauds the support from the home crowd and says they are going in with the same team.

The captain of Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill says it looks like a good wicket. Mentions the conditions don't change here, so chasing is a good option. Adds that it is all about reducing the unforced errors and will try to fine-tune the areas that need it. Informs Kagiso Rabada misses out this match due to personal reasons, and Ishant Sharma comes in for him.

TOSS - Shubman Gill wins the coin flip and Gujarat Titans will BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Murali Kartik and Matthew Hayden are inspecting the Chinnaswamy surface. Kartik starts by informing that pitch number 6, which was not used even once for the last season, will be used for this clash. And then goes on to inform about the dimensions of the ground. Says the squares are 68 meters and 61 meters respectively, with the straight hit being 73 meters. Matthew Hayden joins him and observes a good grass cover, and thinks bowlers like Josh Hazlewood and Ishant Sharma would like to operate on this deck. Says it is slightly on the drier side, and it looks like a good track. Also highlights that it is a multi-colored soil surface, with compositions of both red and black soil, and thinks spinners could also come in handy. On the dimensions, he is of the opinion that the straight hit is very delicious for the batters when the ball comes well on the bat. Reckons that the toss really doesn't matter here, with 197 being the average score, and also mentions a stat with three games being won while chasing in the last seven games. Murali Kartik expects a lot of sixes to be hit due to the high altitude, then mentions there could be a chance of dew coming in later on. Ends by saying captains usually like to chase on this ground.

And here's a stunner. GT has actually dominated RCB at Chinnaswamy, winning 2 of 3 meetings here. Who can forget GT’s epic 2023 chase of 197, where both Kohli and Gill smashed centuries for their respective sides? Though RCB did strike back last season in a commanding fashion, this stat adds extra spice to an already mouthwatering clash. With so much at stake, we're guaranteed fireworks. Don't go anywhere as Toss and team news coming right up.

While the Chinnaswamy crowd gives RCB a huge lift, their recent home record tells a different story - with just a 50% win rate, 43 wins, and an equal number of losses, they rank sixth among IPL teams at their fortress. This season presents the perfect opportunity to turn that around. GT, meanwhile, arrive hunting their first away win while looking to level the head-to-head tally that currently favors RCB 4-3.

After an up-and-down start at home, Gujarat Titans face their first away test in Bengaluru. Their batting fortunes rest heavily on the trio of Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and the in-form Sai Sudharsan, who’s been a revelation at the top with two sparkling fifties. But cracks are showing in the middle order, Shahrukh Khan's underwhelming returns continue, and this game could be make-or-break for the power-hitter. Also, will GT opt to go with Glenn Phillips over Sherfane Rutherford this time around? The bowling unit, at least, looks sharper. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj have been clinical with the new ball, but Rashid Khan's uncharacteristic inconsistency looms large. If the spin wizard rediscovers his magic, GT might just tame the Chinnaswamy beast. One thing’s clear, they’ll need all hands on deck to derail RCB’s juggernaut.

RCB’s men are riding a wave of momentum, slaying giants KKR and CSK in their dens. Their revamped pace attack - Hazlewood's thunderbolts and Bhuvi's swing mastery - has silenced critics, while Phil Salt and Virat Kohli have been setting the Powerplay ablaze. The X-factor? Devdutt Padikkal is gradually rediscovering his mojo as well. Also, Rajat Patidar has been the complete package with his blade roaring with runs while his captaincy oozes a bold, fearless approach. Their spin attack, which looks a bit depleted, might hold the key on this batting paradise. Can they keep GT's power-hitters in check? Will be interesting to see.

Hello, everyone! Games come thick and fast in this competition, and now, the caravan rolls out to the Silicon Valley of India for the first time in IPL 2025. Match 14 features two star-studded sides, set to go up against each other. The home side Royal Challengers Bengaluru host the Gujarat Titans in what’s shaping up to be a thriller of a contest. Both teams are riding on the winning momentum with RCB crowned at the top with two wins, and GT occupying the fourth spot, having tasted both results so far in their two games.

... MATCH DAY ...

The Indian Premier League 2025 has kicked off in electrifying fashion, and as newly assembled squads begin to settle, teams are battling fiercely to seize early momentum. Match 14 brings the action to the vibrant city of Bengaluru, where the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is all set to host a thrilling contest. The home team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, will lock horns with Gujarat Titans in what promises to be another high-scoring spectacle at this venue known for its batting-friendly conditions. RCB have stormed into the season with a perfect start, winning both their matches so far, with the latest triumph being an emphatic victory over Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, a fortress they had failed to conquer since 2008. That win wasn’t just about collecting two points, it was a statement of intent, a massive confidence booster that signals things are clicking for them this time around. With their first game at home, they will be eager to put on a show for their passionate fans. Their batting has looked solid, led by the dynamic opening duo of Phil Salt and Virat Kohli, who have consistently set the tone at the top. Rajat Patidar has been a rock in the middle order, capitalizing on those strong starts, while the rest of the batting lineup has shown glimpses of brilliance, waiting to unleash their full potential. However, the biggest turnaround for RCB has been in the bowling department, which has historically been their Achilles' heel. This season, though, the attack looks sharp and well-balanced. Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal have been exceptional with the ball, making life difficult for opposition batters, while Suyash Sharma, Liam Livingstone and Krunal Pandya have done a commendable job controlling the middle overs. But at Chinnaswamy, a graveyard for bowlers, they will need to dig even deeper and step up to the challenge. Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, shrugged off a disappointing opening defeat and bounced back in dominant fashion. Their batting unit is packed with firepower, with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill forming a formidable opening pair. Add to that the class of Jos Buttler at number three, followed by the explosive trio of Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia, and you have a lineup that can dismantle any bowling attack. All eyes will also be on former RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj, who will be eager to make a statement against his former franchise. With Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, and the ever-reliable Rashid Khan leading GT’s bowling attack, the visitors have the arsenal to challenge RCB’s batting might. Ultimately, this clash could come down to which bowling unit rises to the occasion in this batting paradise. With two power-packed sides colliding under the Bengaluru lights, this promises to be an electrifying contest. Buckle up, because this one is set to be an absolute cracker!
