Commentary

Well then, this brings us to the close of this entertaining double-header Saturday. Earlier in the day, Delhi Capitals registered a thumping win over the Chennai Super Kings at CSK’s own backyard, defeating them by 25 runs, and later in the evening, RR ran over PBKS, with a commanding 50-run win. This is a wrap from this game, then. But matches come thick and fast in the IPL, as up next, we have got another thriller contest lined up for you all. The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium of Hyderabad will light up once again as the Sunrisers Hyderabad host the Gujarat Titans. Both teams are coming off contrasting results with SRH placed at the rock bottom, and GT in the top half. That game will be played on 6th April, Sunday, and the first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Till then, cheers, and take care!

Bowlers are having their say, finally! The tide seems to have turned in recent matches with four consecutive successful defenses by teams batting first. Rajasthan Royals have completely outplayed Punjab Kings as they bounce up to the seventh position, while Punjab Kings slip down to the fourth, suffering a huge dip in their net run rate.

Jofra Archer of the Rajasthan Royals wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH award for his spectacular showing with the ball. He snagged a match-winning three-for and conceded only 25 runs off his 4 overs. He reflects that things didn’t go well for him at the beginning of the tournament, but expresses his happiness to contribute to the team’s win. Adds that when you have days like this, you need to cash in nicely. Opines that you can get lucky in some circumstances, and in some, the batter can get ahead of you. Says everyone in the squad is training hard. Adds every day is not the same, but on good days, you have to enjoy and express yourself to the fullest.

The Rajasthan Royals' captain, Sanju Samson, says that after the way they started in the Powerplay, he felt they might end up falling short of a competitive total, but the middle order stepped up and came through when it mattered the most. Adds that the team managed the game well overall and played with good awareness. Samson also praises the bowling duo of Jofra Archer and Sandeep Sharma, calling them a deadly combination. He adds that he's happy with the way both are performing and trusts them more in pressure situations. He says the team enjoys watching Archer bowl with pace, while Sandeep is one of the best in the business when it comes to execution. States that it took them some time to figure out the right entry points for individuals. Tells that injuries play a significant role in the IPL and emphasises the importance of taking care of players’ bodies.

Time for the Presentation ceremony...

Riyan Parag of the Rajasthan Royals is up for a chat now. He says the plan was to get a few runs in the Powerplay. He says they knew the ball would stick in the wicket and they practiced accordingly. He says his plan was to also take time at the crease and then tee off. Admits it wasn’t the best of effort from him, but still he is happy. He appreciates that Sanju Samson has been their leader for a lot of years, even when he wasn’t officially the captain. Adds that Sanju always analyzes the situations well, and comes up with solutions. He says today the plan was to keep the left-right combination going, and hence, he came in early to bat.

The captain of the Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer, says conceding 205 was a bit much and they gave away a few extra runs, which proved costly in the end. Tells that a slight hiccup at the start of the tournament isn't necessarily a bad thing, and he’s actually glad it happened early on. Mentions the ball was holding up a bit. Adds that they needed partnerships in the middle and could have taken things a bit slower. Says there are a lot of learnings to take from this game. States they will go back and review where things went wrong both with the bat and ball. Tells that Nehal Wadheral batted phenomenally under pressure, took his time, and read the wicket really well.

Earlier in the game, the Royals got off to a flyer after being put in to bat by the Punjab Kings. Jaiswal was on fire after a somewhat slow start, with Samson providing solid support as they raced to an 89-run opening stand. Punjab tried mixing things up with frequent bowling changes, but couldn't contain the early onslaught. Once that platform was set, all the incoming RR batters made it count. Jaiswal smashed a quick 67, while Parag provided the perfect finishing kick with a blistering 43 off just 25 balls. With Hetmyer and Jurel chipping in with valuable cameos, Rajasthan cruised past the 200-mark. Ferguson was Punjab's lone bright spot with the ball, picking up a couple of wickets, but they just couldn't find breakthroughs when needed. The death bowling was particularly expensive, leaking 55 runs in the final four overs.

After those two key wickets, Rajasthan really tightened their grip on the match. Their bowlers were absolutely spot on in the final overs, completely drying up the boundaries when PBKS needed them most. Shashank Singh, who's usually their go-to finisher, barely saw any of the strike and couldn't conjure up his usual magic to save the day.

The Maxwell-Wadhera duo mounted a spirited comeback, racing to an 88-run stand off just 52 balls. Wadhera shifted into the overdrive mode, blasting his way to a rapid fifty, while Maxwell did what Maxwell does best - playing those trademark aggressive shots. But T20 cricket's pendulum swings quickly, and RR's Sri Lankan spin duo turned the game on its head in consecutive deliveries. Theekshana outfoxed Maxwell first, and before Punjab could recover, Hasaranga sent back the dangerous Wadhera.

This early cluster of wickets pegged PBKS firmly on the back foot in their chase. RR’s impact player Kumar Kartikeya also made an instant impact by removing Prabhsimran Singh, who was just looking to get going. In a desperate need of a strong comeback partnership, Glenn Maxwell and Nehal Wadhera tried to steady the ship, and didn’t spare any looseners thrown at them.

Rajasthan Royals had a dream start defending 205 runs, with Archer striking twice in his opening over, including the crucial scalp of PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer. The early momentum continued as Stoinis also fell cheaply, leaving Punjab in deep trouble at 43/3 by the end of the Powerplay - a stark contrast to Rajasthan's comfortable 53 without loss at the same stage.

Back-to-back wins for Rajasthan Royals then. And both of them with good display in all facets. First, they beat CSK by 6 runs in Guwahati, and now decimate the Punjab Kings by 50 runs in an away game. After starting their campaign with two consecutive defeats, this win will surely inflate RR's net run rate enormously. This also marks Punjab Kings' first defeat this season, and with that, Delhi Capitals are the only team left unbeaten in this season so far.

FOUR! Archer hurls it full, on the off stump, and Lockie steps out and slices it to the left of backward point. Sandeep Sharma gets around to his right at deep third and dives to prevent the boundary, but the ball goes under his body. The third umpire has been called into action for a check for a potential fielding restriction breach. Riyan Parag at mid on is the man in question, who seems to have been stationed just outside the circle. After a few looks, the third umpire is happy with where Riyan is standing.

Is that a boundary? Also, the umpires are checking how many fielders were inside the inner ring before the ball was bowled. It will be deemed as a No Ball if fewer than four fielders are found inside the 30-yard circle. The aerial angle from the spider-cam comes up now for the umpire's convenience. Riyan Parag is explaining his case to the umpire, as he is the one who might have moved outside the ring. The wait continues and the third umpire reconfirms with a few more aerial angles. The verdict comes in favor of RR as it is not a No Ball. Now, on the boundary check, Sandeep Sharma fails to stop it.

Lockie Ferguson is the last man in for Punjab Kings.

OUT! CAUGHT! Jofra Archer has his third wicket of the night! With an upright seam, full and straight, at the stumps from over the wicket, Arshdeep Singh backs away to go inside out but hits it flat and low towards extra cover. Wanindu Hasaranga, standing on the edge of the ring takes a good low grab.

19.41

Full and sliding onto the pads, Shashank Singh turns it away to deep backward square leg for a single.

The physio from the PBKS camp rushes out for the mandatory concussion check. Shashank looks fine.

19.30

A well-directed bumper at pace, at the left shoulder of the batter, Shashank Singh is beaten for pace as he tries to take the short ball on. The ball grazes his glove and Singh takes a glancing blow under the grill of the helmet.

19.20

Takes pace off does Jofra and goes into the wicket, around off, Shashank Singh goes for the pull but is way too early into the shot and connects with thin air.

Commentary

All in readiness for the chase to get underway. Sanju Samson and Co. take their respective positions on the field. The Impact Player for the Kings, Priyansh Arya walks out to open the innings alongside Prabhsimran Singh. Jofra Archer will open the attack for the Royals. Archer to Arya with a slip in place. Here we go!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, RR head into the break with all the momentum on their side after that powerful finish. They will need to take a cue from the way Punjab’s bowlers effectively used the slower deliveries into the wicket. As Michael Clarke pointed out in his pitch report, the breeze blowing across the ground could prevent dew from settling in, which might help the bowlers under lights. It’s going to be a real test for the power-packed PBKS batting unit and if they do manage to chase this down, it will be a record at this venue. Back in a bit for the chase.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is up for a chat. He says he is feeling good and enjoyed his batting tonight. Adds that he just tried to keep the intent on and play the shots by watching the ball. On the assessment about the pitch, he says it was a good wicket, with the cutters stopping a bit on the surface.

Jaiswal, having notched up a well-composed fifty, looked to accelerate but fell in the process. Nitish Rana and Shimron Hetmyer looked to keep the momentum going but were in for a short stay on the night. However, Parag found his footing just at the right time as the Royals scored 55 runs off the last 4 overs to reach 205.

Earlier, the new ball did offer some movement and the bounce did trouble Yashasvi Jaiswal initially, but he did well to weather the early storm. Alongside Sanju Samson, he gave the Royals a solid foundation, taking them to 53/0 at the end of the Powerplay. Once the field restrictions were lifted, the Kings managed to rein things in with tighter lines and smarter variations, thanks largely to Lockie Ferguson.

Excellent finish to the innings for the Royals! They end up with 205, the highest team total at this venue in the IPL. It didn’t quite seem like they would get there with just 4 overs to go and the score reading 150/4, especially with Riyan Parag struggling to find the middle. Parag eventually found his rhythm, and towards the end, Dhruv Jurel chipped in with a handy cameo to help RR breach the 200-run mark.

19.54

FOUR! Clever, so clever! Stoinis rolls the fingers over the leather and takes pace off, bowls into the surface, short and outside off, Dhruv Jurel waits for it and just ramps it over the keeper for a boundary.

19.46

SIX! A real freebie from Stoinis and Dhruv makes the most of it! The 200 is up for RR! A friendly full toss on the body, Dhruv Jurel picks it aerially and parks it behind deep mid-wicket for a six.

19.31

Takes the pace off, does Marcus, on a fullish length, around off, smashed down to long off by Parag, for just one.

19.26

OUT! IN THE AIR, GONE! CAUGHT! Arshdeep makes a good comeback after the boundary! Gets his first scalp of the evening! A low full toss, angling on the leg stump line. Shimron Hetmyer gets crouched a bit to tonk it over the long on fence. But fails to generate much power on it. Sails off the toe-end of the bat and it travels only as far as Glenn Maxwell at long on, who is not dropping these dollies.

18.44

FOUR! Not a boundary-less over anymore! Short again from Singh, on top of off, slower one dug into the surface. Shimron Hetmyer waits, and waits for it, and pulls it through deep mid-wicket for a cracking boundary.

18.31

A low full toss, across off, just inside the tramline, Riyan Parag crouches and drills it down to long off for just one. Arshdeep and PBKS will take it. A boundary-less over so far.

Slower balls into the wicket have proven to be quite effective so far, and Rajasthan Royals would do well to take a leaf out of that book when it's their turn to bowl.

18.21

Shortish outside off, Shimron Hetmyer flat bats it to the cover region and rushes off for a quick single.

18.12

A slower one, short and outside off, Shimron Hetmyer stands tall, waits and pulls along the ground to the left of deep mid-wicket. The call is for two as the fielder mops it up and throws to the keeper on the bounce. Prabhsimran Singh collects the ball and whips the bails off, but Hettie gets safely back home by dragging his bat in. Two taken.

Arshdeep Singh (3-0-26-0) returns to the attack. Priyansh Arya comes in as the Impact Player for the Kings, replacing Yuzvendra Chahal. Arya will have a job to do in the chase at the top of the order.

Riyan Parag is through his shot early as he gets on his knee and tries to tonk it downtown. The ball gets skied off the toe-end of the bat, and swirls around the mid on region. Marco Jansen turns around to catch, but grasses it in the end. Two taken.

A loud shout for LBW but turned down! Seemed to be going down leg, but RR have taken the review. Sliding onto the pads, Singh gets beaten on the flick on the inside edge, and the ball hits him on the knee roll on the front pad. A leg bye is taken as the ball rolls away on the leg side. There is no bat involved, but the Ball Tracking shows that the ball is clipping the leg stump and it is an umpire's call.

STRATEGIC BREAK. Just a couple of deliveries prior, one would've made a bold prediction that PBKS would execute an absolute heist, and understandably so with the way Glenn Maxwell and Nehal Wadhera were going along. But just as the fast-paced nature of this format, momentum keeps switching back and forth, and it was snatched back by the two Lankan tweakers for RR, removing both Wadhera and Maxwell in successive deliveries. Now with PBKS slipping down to 131/6, and just Shashank Singh as the proper hitter in the middle, Rajasthan Royals would feel they have done 80 percent of their job. Yes, 80 percent, because we are not unaware of what this man called Shashank Singh can do with the bat. But still, it is a steep slope to climb, and pressure can do a lot in these situations. Here's Wanindu Hasaranga to resume his over.

15.1W

OUT! TAKEN! Two in two for the Rajasthan Royals, and this is a massive blow to the Punjab Kings! Wanindu Hasaranga serves the googly and the turn takes it further away from the left-hander, near the tramline on off, Nehal Wadhera gets down on a knee and tries to drag the slog sweep away. Fails to get any elevation and hits it flat and low towards deep mid-wicket. It is dipping onto Dhruv Jurel, who does well to come charging in off the ropes and dives ahead to take it inches off the turf. Wadhera falls for 62 (41) and Punjab Kings are now 131/6, needing 75 runs in 29 balls.

12.41

Slower one, on a good length, on off, Maxwell dabs it to backward point for a single.

For the second ball in a row, Glenn Maxwell pulls out of his stance just as Yudhvir Singh is in his delivery stride. It's unclear what's bothering the Aussie, but it appears the spider cam hovering nearby might be causing the distraction.

Wide called, but Sanju Samson appeals for caught behind. But it is not entertained by the umpire. There were two sounds and hence, Sanju feels it came off the inside edge. Samson straightaway reviews it and challenges the on-field decision. Full, but down the leg stump line from Yudhvir, Glenn Maxwell misses to flick and the ball passes close to the inside edge. Sanju Samson collects it safely. UltraEdge comes up and shows a flat line. The decision of wide remains, and Rajasthan Royals lose a review here. Interestingly, Maxwell took his gloves off and began walking off the moment the review was taken, seemingly convinced he was out. STRATEGIC BREAK. This game remains nicely in the grasp of Rajasthan Royals as they have managed to pick the four big wickets of PBKS before the halfway mark. All the bowlers have applied themselves well and have stuck to their plans. OUT! BOWLED'EM! A huge, huge wicket for Rajasthan Royals and Jofra Archer has set the tone for them by knocking the PBKS skipper out! Jofra runs full tilt and spears in fuller on the stumps, Shreyas Iyer stays leg side, and creates room for himself to access the off side. He exposes all the stumps and tries to play the aggressive lofted shot, but misses. The ball crashes into the wickets. What an entertaining first over this has been. Two boundaries, two wickets! Shreyas departs for 10. GAME ON!

0.52

Good length, outside off, Shreyas Iyer punches off the back foot to the point fielder, who half stops it to his left and parries it behind to the deep, allowing a couple of runs.

0.51wd

WIDE! Down the leg stump line, on a good length, Shreyas lets it be. Wide given.

0.44

FOUR! Lovely shot from the skipper! Pitched fuller from Archer, around off, Shreyas Iyer gets on the front foot, plays it on the up and lifts it over cover for a boundary.

0.30

Back of a length, outside off, Shreyas keeps it out.

0.24

FOUR! And there couldn't be a better start for any batter than this! Punjab Kings and Shreyas Iyer are underway in the chase. Fuller and around off, Shreyas Iyer lofts it over cover for a cracking boundary.

The skipper, Shreyas Iyer, walks in at number 3.

0.1W

OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! It couldn't be a better start and Jofra Archer is thrilled to bits! Punjab Kings lose their first on the very first delivery! Archer steams in from over the stumps, and spears it on a good length, keeping the line of attack on the stumps. Gets that lateral movement that deviates to the off stump. Priyansh Arya presses forward to defence, but plays inside the line and the ball flirts past his outside edge to crash into the off stump. A golden duck for Arya.

Shortish in length, on off, Dhruv Jurel pulls it along the ground to deep mid-wicket for a single to finish. RR post 205 on the board, getting 19 off the last over.

Marco spears in a low full toss on the stumps. Shimron Hetmyer works along the ground to long on for a run. 17 runs from the 18th over then.

17.51

Good length and just outside off. Riyan Parag lifts this high in the air, but it lands just outside the circle towards long on region. Glenn Maxwell from long on runs in and keeps it to just one.

17.42

CATCHING OPPORTUNITY, PUT DOWN! Marco Jansen shells it! Deceptive change of pace, away from the batter's reach, full and outside off. Riyan Parag is through his shot early as he gets on his knee and tries to tonk it downtown. The ball gets skied off the toe-end of the bat, and swirls around the mid on region. Marco Jansen turns around to catch, but grasses it in the end. Two taken.

17.36

SIX! OH, WHAT A SHOT! Jansen goes fuller and on the legs this time, Riyan Parag brings the wrists in play and flicks it over deep fine leg for a six. A mini-helicopter shot that from Parag and he is in overdrive mode now.

17.26

SIX! Right out of the middle! Hard length from Jansen, on off, Riyan Parag stands tall and thumps it over long on for a 79-meter six.

16.56

SIX! Dropped chance? Seems like Yuzi lost the ball in the lights! Back of a length, around the body, Shimron pulls it aerially towards deep fine leg. Yuzvendra Chahal prepares to take a reverse cup catch, but loses the ball in the lights and the ball bursts through his hands for a six.

16.52wd

Pace off, outside off, on a length, Riyan Parag again misjudges to read the slower one and swings early. Misses and the ball goes on a bad bounce to the keeper, Prabhsimran Singh who fumbles to collect and the ball rolls behind him. The batters cross over. Wide called and Punjab Kings have reviewed it for a fair delivery! The front on replay shows that the ball is passing just beyond the guideline. The on-field decision stays.

16.40

Pace taken off, on a short length, around off, Parag is months early to pull, and misses.

16.30

Back of a length around off, Parag swings to pull and is beaten again.

16.21

A big mix-up but no harm done! On top of middle and off, on a length, Shimron Hetmyer hops on the back foot and tucks into the mid-wicket region for a single. With no one in the inner ring in that area, Lockie Ferguson himself chases the ball and slides as the batters motor for the first run. Parag is off for the second, and is more than halfway through but gets sent back as the deep mid-wicket fielder charges in and throws it to the keeper. A wayward throw allows Parag to retreat back in time at the batting end.

Angling across off, on a hard length, Shimron Hetmyer extends his arms to go through cover, but misses.

FOUR! Gee, that is hit it with real authority! Hard length, on the stumps, Riyan Parag waits for it, and smashes it with a flat bat, over the bowler for a cracking boundary. So after four dots on the bounce, Parag manages to squeeze out 8 off this one.

15.54

FOUR! He just had to get some bat on it! Too full, fairly outside off, Riyan Parag extends his arms, with the bottom hand coming off the grip. Slices it over short third for a boundary.

15.40

Fourth dot! Under real pressure, is Riyan! Another slower one, into the surface, over the top of off, Riyan Parag again fails to read the pace-off delivery and swings to pull, but misses to get any wood on it. Four dots in a row from Arshdeep.

15.30

Swing and a miss! Back of a length, angling across off again, Riyan Parag weighs on the back foot, and attempts to pull, but only connects thin air. A 120 kph delivery from Arshdeep. Not giving much pace to work with.

15.20

Shorter one, across off, Riyan Parag swivels to pull, but gets a bottom edge to it and rolls behind to the keeper.

15.10

OUT! CAUGHT! Nitish Rana holes out! Rana was looking to keep the momentum going but perishes in the process. Marco Jansen has his first wicket of the night. Marco hurls it full, on off, Rana backs away and targets the longer of the two square boundaries on the off side. Skies it straight up towards deep cover where Glenn Maxwell runs to his left and settles under it to take a neat catch.

14.30

The length is pulled back and it is the pace-on delivery, on middle and leg, Rana gets inside the line for the scoop but misses.

14.31wd

Wide! Takes pace off but this slides down leg, on a length, Nitish gets inside the line to help it away but misses.

14.21

Gets it right up there, at the toes, Riyan jams it out off the outer half of the bat to backward point for one.

14.11

Banged into the wicket, on middle, Nitish gets inside the line and helps it down to deep fine leg for a single.

STRATEGIC BREAK. Rajasthan Royals have slipped slightly from 89/0 to 123/2, but the positive thing for them is that all the incoming batters have shown that attacking intent to keep the scorecard ticking. Yashasvi Jaiswal's runaway train was halted by Lockie Ferguson, who is the only successful bowler for PBKS as of now. With enough wickets in the bank, RR will continue to stay in this attacking trajectory and aim at something around or above the 200 mark. Whereas, a wicket or two in quick intervals, will surely halt the momentum. Here's Marco Jansen back into the attack. He is 2-0-22-0 so far and replaces Marcus Stoinis.

13.34

FOUR! Rana is up and running! Width offered by Lockie, on a good length, Rana throws his hands at the delivery and slams it to the right of extra cover for a boundary.

13.31wd

Fuller and sliding down leg, Rana goes for the flick, but can't get any bat on it as the line of that ball is too wide. The wicket-keeper dives to his right and stops it.

OUT! CASTLED! The off stump goes for a toss! The slower ball does the trick for Lockie Ferguson and this is a timely wicket for the home side. Comes from around the wicket for the left-hander and serves the knuckleball, on the off stump line, on a length, Jaiswal stays leg side of the ball and has a hoick across the line. Gets beaten on the inside edge as the ball sneaks past the bat to uproot the off pole. Jaiswal departs on 67 (45) just as he was starting to shift gears. Rajasthan Royals are now 123/2.

STRATEGIC BREAK! The Rajasthan Royals will be quite pleased with the start they have had. Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal hadn’t quite clicked as a pair coming into this game, but they have looked in sync tonight. There was some movement on offer early on, but that disappeared quickly. The surface has offered good carry and bounce, making stroke play relatively easy. That said, bowlers who have taken pace off, both pacers and spinners, have managed to extract a bit of grip and hold from the pitch. Can the Royals capitalise on this strong platform, or will Punjab claw their way back with some smart bowling? We shall find out soon enough.

All in readiness for Match number 18 to get underway, here in Mullanpur! First home game for the Punjab Kings and it is buzzing with a sea of red and an odd sprinkling of pink here and there. The two umpires walk out to the middle. Shreyas Iyer leads his troops to the field as the Punjab Kings spread out to the park. RR skipper, Sanju Samson is accompanied by Yashasvi Jaiswal to open. Arshdeep Singh has the new ball for PBKS and will bowl to Jaiswal, who will take the strike. The timer goes off and here we go...

Over in Chennai, the Capitals have made it three wins in as many games with a comprehensive victory. The Super Kings never really found their footing in the daunting chase of 184, struggling throughout to build any substantial momentum. With this win, DC have surged to the top of the standings and remain one of only two unbeaten teams so far, alongside PBKS. That could, however, change depending on how things unfold tonight in Mullanpur, but a win for PBKS would see them reclaim the top spot.

The skipper of the Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, says that he feels good to be back on the field and that they are looking forward to batting first and putting up a decent total. He says he felt a little helpless sitting in the dugout and watching the team play in the previous games. Due to a new management, Samson reckons it naturally takes a bit of time for things to settle and gel together. Says the last match was a perfect outing for them and they will be looking to carry that momentum forward. Informs that Tushar Deshpande misses out due to a small niggle, with Yudhvir Singh coming in as his replacement.

The captain of the Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer, says it is the first game here and they just want to see how it plays. Says they played a few practice games here and mentions about the dew coming in later. Adds they need to stabilize their rhythm from the early days and says the boys are in high spirits. Says they need to stay calm and composed as it sometimes gets into the head. Also adds they have played practice games, so each individual gets a fair bit of idea on how the track is going to play. Highlights about playing the last two games on the red soil pitch, so they got a couple of good sessions to analyse and adapt as quickly as possible. Ends by confidently saying they have got the mindset of champions and is hopeful they can execute it. Informs they are going with the same side.

TOSS - Punjab Kings have won the toss and they will BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Ian Bishop is inspecting the deck at Mullanpur. He says it is cool out there and then informs about the dimensions. Says it is 65 meters and 66 meters on the square, with 74 meters down the ground. Sees a bit of grass here and there, with the rest of the pitch being bare. Michael Clarke joins and observes some dry patches and says that the deck is pretty hard. Expects the conditions to remain the same throughout the 40 overs. Also mentions that a lot of dew might come in later as well. Reckons 170-180 would be a good total on this surface.

As is the tradition for every team’s first home game, an opening ceremony is underway tonight in Mullanpur ahead of Punjab’s first outing at home this season. And lighting up the stage is Jasmine Sandlas, setting the tone for what promises to be a cracking evening of cricket!

Down in Chennai, in the first game of the day, the Delhi Capitals are firmly in control after posting 183, anchored by KL Rahul’s 77. In response, the Chennai Super Kings crumbled early, losing their top three inside the Powerplay and are currently 96/5 at the end of 14 overs. With 88 runs needed from 36 balls, the situation looks bleak, but the ever-hopeful Chennai faithful will be counting on something special from Vijay Shankar and MS Dhoni to pull off a miraculous turnaround.

On the other hand, RR are in the bottom half of the table and they would be itching to climb the ladder with a win. Captain Sanju Samson has been declared fit by the NCA and is expected to be back captaining the side, which will be a big boost for RR. So, will the Punjab Kings continue their winning momentum, or can RR win back-to-back games and generate some much-needed momentum? We shall find out.

PBKS have been flying high as they are sitting pretty at the top of the table. Their first game was a close affair against GT where their bowlers managed to hold their nerves in the end. Their second game saw them register a dominating win over LSG. Currently, they are doing well in all the departments, and they would be looking to continue their winning momentum as they will be playing their first home game of the season.

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second game of this double-header Saturday in the 2025 Indian Premier League. The Punjab Kings are all set to take on the Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. We are now well into the season, with each team having played at least 2 games. PBKS have had a rollicking start to their season, winning both their matches while RR, who lost their first two games, would be feeling confident after the win over CSK in their last game.

... MATCH DAY ...

Match 18 of the 2025 IPL season is here and it will be Punjab Kings taking on Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur in what will also be the Kings' first home game of the season. It will also be the second game of what is a double-header day in the 2025 IPL season. Two teams that have had contrasting fortunes in recent years in the IPL with Punjab Kings struggling to make the playoffs and Rajasthan Royals making the top four in 2 of the last 3 occasions. However, with this being the mega auction year, the teams have and players have been shuffled around quite a bit and that has brought change in fortunes for both sides. Punjab have managed to notch up two impressive victories on the road to kick start the campaign, whereas Rajasthan are coming off their first win after suffering a couple of early losses. Talking a bit more about the home team, Punjab Kings have shifted from the PCA Stadium in Mohali to the brand-new one in Mullanpur and their fans will be ecstatic to see an in-form side perform on the very first home outing of the season. Skipper, Shreyas Iyer has been a revelation and he even notched up an unbeaten 97 in the last game against Lucknow Super Giants. The Indian batting contingent has also stepped up, as the likes of Prabhsimran Singh, Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh have all had an impressive outing to their names. The bowling has been on the expensive side but they've done reasonably well with Arshdeep Singh leading from the front. The Royals, on the other hand, finally managed to get a win on board after suffering to huge losses against SRH and KKR. They defeated CSK in style and the morale of the team will be high at the moment. It was Nitish Rana who was the wrecker-in-chief with the bat, but stand-in skipper Riyan Parag too played a vital role, after which the bowlers held their nerves. The huge positive from the last game is certainly the stellar outing Jofra Archer and Wanindu Hasaranga had with the ball and they will be looking to build on it. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal's form continues to be a cause of concern for RR who look to topple a high-flying PBKS side at their home turf as well. The Kings certainly have a bit of an edge heading into this encounter but IPL is a great leveller and you need to be at the top of your game every time, otherwise, the opposition are too good not to take advantage of the slightest of scurmishes. Who you you reckon will come out on top in this encounter?
