Pushed through from around the wicket, right in the slot, on off, Patidar gets under the ball and with a clean swing of the bat, pumps it over long off for a six.

OUT! CAUGHT! Immaculate judgement from Will Jacks and young Vignesh Puthur continues to impress. Having been hit for a six just a couple of balls ago, Puthur still tosses this one right up to the batter, around the leg stump. Devdutt Padikkal makes a bit of room and sits down to get under the ball, but ends up launching it a mile high towards the long on fence. Jacks settles himself just inside the ropes and takes it safely. Padikkal departs for a well-made 37 off 22 balls and RCB are now 95/2!

STRATEGIC BREAK! Mumbai's Powerplay struggles have resurfaced once again tonight. While they did manage to dismiss Phil Salt early, they have failed to apply any real pressure on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Or perhaps it's more accurate to say that the pair of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal has simply not allowed them to. Hardik Pandya has tried to mix things up with his bowling changes, but the pacers haven’t found much assistance from the surface. The spinners, though, have found some grip and turn, which was evident in the solitary over of spin from Will Jacks. An exciting phase of play lies ahead as MI look to wrest back some control. It will be Mitchell Santner to bowl after the break.

Just a single to end but 20 off the over and RCB are 73/1 after the Powreplay! Goes full and gets it in the blockhole on off, Padikkal jams it out to mid off for one.

The skipper of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajat Patidar, says he would have opted to bowl first as well, but is content with being asked to bat. He shares that the surface looks like a typical Mumbai wicket and doesn’t expect it to change much over the course of the game. Patidar reckons it’s all about playing good cricket and mentions that the team is looking forward to the contest. He admits that bowling at this venue can be tough but states that he has full confidence in his bowling unit to get the job done. Informs that they are unchanged for this game.

The captain of the Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, says he will bowl first. Reckons that this is a good track, and he expects the dew to make its presence felt. He says that the wicket stays the same pretty much throughout the game and sometimes, if dew comes in, then batting becomes easy. Feels that the team needs to get some rhythm, and they should make smart choices and they should play good cricket. Adds that they are missing out on certain key moments. He says Mumbai is their fortress and the support is always there, plus his team knows the conditions, and he feels it’s a good chance to entertain the crowd. Informs that Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma are back in the side. He feels that they are their two highly experienced players, and it’s a big boost for the team.

So, he must be having a good feeling about this game. On the bowling part, their captain, Hardik Pandya, has bowled effectively, using his cutters to good effect. Talking a bit more about MI, they have had yet another sluggish start to the season, winning just one of their first 4 games and that star-studded batting line-up has clicked enough. Suryakumar Yadav has been one consistent name for MI with the bat but their opener are having difficulties and with Rohit Sharma a bit out of touch and also suffering from a niggle, lot rests on the middle order. Pandya did show promise last time around but he has been much more effective with the ball than the bat. They do have a good pace attack and with Jasprit Bumrah added back to the squad, their bowling should be up to full strength pretty soon. On the other hand, RCB suffered their first loss of the season against GT last time around but they've already won their opening two away games and will be looking to make it a hat-trick of wins on the road. The batting has been hit and miss but the likes of Liam Livingstone and Tim David have started to come to the party. The bowling does need to improve and they need more wickets up top.
