Commentary
We are back with the chase. The two umpires are out in the middle and are followed by Gujarat Titans, who burst open off their final huddle to take the field. Surprisingly, Aiden Markram is joined by Rishabh Pant to open the innings for Lucknow Super Giants. For GT, Prasidh Krishna comes in for Sherfane Rutherford as an impact substitute. Mohammed Siraj has the new ball in hand and will start the proceedings. Here we go.
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, GT have posted a good total on the board thanks to that explosive start, and with the kind of form their bowlers are in, they'll back themselves to defend it confidently. LSG were counting on Marsh to provide a solid foundation, but with him unavailable in this game, it’s crucial for the rest of the batting lineup to step up and take responsibility. We’re all set for a thrilling second half!
Sai Sudharsan is in for a chat. He says that the wicket was a bit difficult to bat on, and the ball wasn’t coming on as nicely as one would have liked. He feels that the first six overs were crucial in setting up a platform, but once the shine wore off after 3-4 overs, it became trickier. Sai shares that the slower deliveries were holding up and feels that varying the pace will be key for them. He also states that a few balls kept low, which made stroke play even harder.
It was Avesh Khan who finally broke through for LSG, and that opened the floodgates. Ravi Bishnoi struck twice in the very next over, triggering a collapse that saw GT tumble from 120/0 to 127/3. The shift in momentum was stark, and run-scoring suddenly became a challenge. Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford got starts but couldn't convert them into impactful knocks. Shardul Thakur played a pivotal role for LSG, delivering at both ends of the innings with key breakthroughs. He finished with two wickets, as did Bishnoi, both instrumental in halting GT’s charge.
Gujarat Titans, as they’ve done in many games, got off to a flying start with Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill putting on a masterclass and finding boundaries with ease while taking minimal risks. Their flawless strokeplay powered GT to 54 runs in the Powerplay, and the momentum didn’t dip thereafter. LSG failed to apply pressure early on, missing their lines and lengths, which allowed the opening pair to cruise to a dominant 120-run partnership.
Lucknow Super Giants have pulled off a brilliant comeback to seize control of the game, restricting Gujarat Titans to 180/6 at the halfway stage. GT seemed on course for a 200-plus total with their openers blazing away, but LSG kept their composure and applied the brakes in the latter half of the innings. The final eight overs marked a turning point, as Gujarat’s momentum took a serious hit. They managed only 60 runs while losing 6 wickets, halting their charge.

Thakur hurls it full, outside off, Rashid Khan swipes it wide of deep mid-wicket and comes charging back for the second run. Two wickets and 11 runs off the final over. GT finish with 180 on the board!
Just gets enough bat on it, does Rashid! A slower bumper from Thakur, over off, Rashid shimmies down the track and goes for almost a tennis-forehand shot. Tries to clear mid off and gets just enough on it to evade the backtracking Aiden Markram. Two runs taken.
Rashid Khan walks out next and will face the Hat Trick ball from Shardul Thakur.
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Two in two for Shardul Thakur and LSG are finishing strongly here! Thakur gets the yorker wrong again as this comes out as a thigh-high full toss, outside off, Rahul spots mid on inside the circle and goes for a cross-batted lofted stroke. Skies it straight up behind mid on and Aiden Markram runs over his left shoulder and takes a safe catch around his chest. The third umpire is called into action to check for height but the tracker shows that the ball is below the waist and it is a fair delivery. 200th wicket in T20s for Thakur. Shardul is on a hat-trick now.
Rahul Tewatia walks in next for Gujarat Titans.
OUT! PLUMB IN FRONT! Shardul Thakur has his first wicket of the day! Not the best of balls though, as this is a low full toss, on middle, Sherfane Rutherford premeditates by moving across towards the off side, maybe expecting the wide yorker. Adjusts to the line as he tries to whip it away but gets beaten on the inside edge and wears it on the front pad right in front of the stumps. Sherfane falls for 22 (19). GT are now 176/5 with three balls to go in the innings.
Takes pace off and goes into the wicket, Shahrukh Khan swivels for the pull but gets it high on the bat. It balloons well in front of deep mid-wicket. A single taken.
SIX! An ideal start to the final over for the Gujarat Titans! Thakur goes searching for the yorker but ends up serving a low full toss, on the pads, Khan smokes it over deep backward square leg for a flat six.
Uh oh, LSG have fallen behind on their over rate and will now have to bowl the final over with an extra fielder inside the 30-yard circle as a penalty. Shardul Thakur will bowl this final over.

Good comeback from Avesh after conceding a couple of boundaries early in the over! Hurls it very full, on off, Khan goes hard on the drive and loses his shape. Miscues it towards long on for one. 12 runs off the over.
At 138.4 kph, right in the blockhole, on middle, Sherfane Rutherford digs it out in front of cover for one.
Keeps it near the tramline on off, on the fuller side, Khan reaches out and slams it to deep cover for a single.
Length ball, on middle and leg, Sherfane Rutherford does not quite manage to get under the ball as he looks to slog it away. Gets an inside edge that dribbles to the right of the keeper for one.
FOUR! Streaky but they all count! Avesh delivers another full ball, around leg, Sherfane Rutherford backs away to open up the off side. Gets an outside edge that sneaks past the stumps and races through between the keeper and short third for four more.
FOUR! Easy pickings! Sliding onto the pads, full in length, Sherfane Rutherford picks it up nicely and helps it to the right of short fine leg for a boundary.

Keeps it full, on off, Sherfane Rutherford crunches it down to long off and keeps the strike. 10 runs off the over.
FOUR! A rare loose delivery and Thakur gets punished! Low full toss, at the stumps, Sherfane Rutherford does not miss out as he whips it along the ground wide of deep square leg for a boundary.
Executes the yorker, going across the left-hander, Sherfane Rutherford tries to use the pace and glide it away past short third but misses. Sherfane feels that it should be a wide and he has taken the review. The replays show that he did shuffle across slightly and that has resulted in a revised wide guideline. UltraEdge is being used to check whether there is any bat and there is a spike, but it is off the bat hitting the turf. Over to the wide check and the third umpire concludes that no part of the ball is inside the tramline. The on-field call is reversed. Wide given.
Clever change of length and pace, on a back of a length, pace taken off, Shahrukh Khan is early into the pull and gets it off the inner half towards short fine leg. They cross.
Wide! Low full toss, sliding down leg, Shahrukh Khan misses the tickle.
Low full toss, outside off, steered with an open bat face straight to deep backward point for a single.
Manages to sneak the yorker inside the tramline, Sherfane Rutherford plants his front foot across the stumps and tries to lap it behind square on the leg side but fails to get any bat on it and wears it on the pad.
Wide! Goes for the wide yorker again but this goes beyond the tramline on off.
Commentary
Right then, the Lucknow Super Giants pulled off a remarkable turnaround to defeat the high-flying Gujarat Titans, and this win will do wonders for their confidence. That’s all from us here in Lucknow, but we are not done yet on this double-header Saturday. Over in Hyderabad, the Punjab Kings have opted to bat first against the Sunrisers and have raced to 53 runs in just 3 overs. Switch tabs and join us there for all the action. Cheers!
Aiden Markram is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant knock of 58 runs from 31 balls. Shares that it was a slow start to the season, but after a couple of good knocks, he is now feeling much better. Mentions that with a packed schedule and changing conditions, there is a lot to take in, but he feels it's all about sticking to your game. Says that as a player, you always end up going back to your strengths. Emphasizes the importance of staying true to your game, and if the team benefits from it, that’s the most important thing. States that the deck did change a bit, and the lights coming on made a difference in easing the pitch.
Rishabh Pant, the victorious skipper of the Lucknow Super Giants, says he is pleased with the win, and they, as a team, are just taking one match at a time and believing in the process. Mentions that the idea was to bowl a lot of yorkers and into the wicket slower ones and the way the bowlers came back was special. Further says that he is feeling better with every game and spending more time in the middle just helps a player. Lauds Nicholas Pooran and says he is happy to have somebody of that class in his team and he reads the game well and doesn't just keep slogging.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
The holder of the Orange Cap, Nicholas Pooran, is in for a chat. Mentions that he is not too concerned about the Orange Cap, as it is all about the team’s wins. He describes that it was a beautiful wicket to bat on. He knows they have solid batting depth but stresses the importance of stitching partnerships. Emphasizes the need to understand what is required at different stages of the innings and how to approach the task at hand while also targeting specific bowlers.
Shubman Gill, the skipper of Gujarat Titans, says the wicket wasn't the easiest one to bat on from ball one and losing quick wickets didn't help their cause. Further adds that while batting first, the balls were sticking a bit, but the strike rotation was a concern that they will have to fix going ahead. Mentions the conversation was always to look for wickets, but after the halfway mark in the second innings, there was some dew, which eased the pitch. Concludes that to have taken the game so deep is a good positive that shows their fighting spirit.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan dominated the proceedings for the Titans with a 120-run opening stand. Everything seemed to be going smoothly for GT while the duo was out in the middle, but once the partnership was broken, the tide turned dramatically. LSG stormed back into the contest, conceding just 60 runs and picking up 6 wickets in the final 8 overs. Ravi Bishnoi took a bit of tap in the first couple of overs but came back well to finish with a couple of wickets.
The way Pooran was batting, it looked like the Super Giants would complete the chase with an over or two to spare, but the Titans managed to take the game down to the final over after Pooran fell. GT could never really build any significant pressure with the ball, and not much went their way after they let it slip with the bat. However, they will take heart from the fact that they fought till the end and made the contest closer than it seemed at one point.
With Mitchell Marsh unavailable for the game due to personal reasons, Rishabh Pant stepped up to open the innings alongside Aiden Markram. While Pant found it tough to get going, Markram wasted no time in finding his rhythm, dispatching a few early boundaries to set the tone. He was given a life on 28, and made Gujarat Titans pay dearly for that miss. Though Markram eventually fell, Nicholas Pooran took charge and kept the chase on track with a commanding performance.
Third win on the trot for the Lucknow Super Giants! This one will feel particularly satisfying, given the character they showed to turn things around after GT were cruising at 120/0. The Gujarat Titans’ four-match winning streak comes to an end, and they will be kicking themselves for not making the most of the strong platform laid by their openers. Missed opportunities in the field didn’t help either for Shubman Gill and his men.
SIX! That's some shot to finish the game! Lucknow Super Giants win by 6 wickets. Sai Kishore comes from around the wicket and goes full, on middle and leg, Ayush Badoni slog sweeps it over mid-wicket for a big six to get the job done.
FOUR! Scores level! Sai Kishore keeps it short again and on middle and leg, Ayush Badoni slips on his knee and sweeps it firmly to the right of deep mid-wicket. Mohammed Siraj dives but fails to cut it off.
Short and on middle and leg, Abdul Samad calmly turns it to square leg for a single. 5 needed off 5 balls.
Sai Kishore (1-0-24-0) will bowl the final over with LSG needing 6 runs.

Oh dear, what could have been a runout is now a lifeline for David Miller! Jos Buttler has a day to forget! Full and on middle and leg, Miller swipes it to deep square leg and sets off for the second. Mohammed Siraj collects the ball well and fires it to the keeper and Jos Buttler moves in front of the stumps and looks to flick it back off his right hand as Miller dives in desperation to make it back home. The side on replays show the wickets were broken and Miller was short of his crease, but the ball popped out of Buttler's hand at the time the wickets were broken off the gloves.
Is that out? Or has the dive saved David Miller here? GT look pretty confident. Oh, dear, the replays show that Miller is short of his crease despite the dive, but the ball fell out of Jos Buttler's gloves as he tried to reach out and break the stumps. NOT OUT!

Nicely bowled! A sharp bouncer over the off-stump line, Nicholas Pooran is way too early on his pull shot and misses to connect. A solid end to the over that started with a boundary. 6 runs and a wicket off it.

OUT! CAUGHT! One shot too many from Rishabh Pant and his stay as an opener comes to an end. Lucknow Super Giants lose their skipper for 21 (18) and are 65/1. Prasidh Krishna bangs the deck, on a back of a length, over middle and Rishabh Pant gives the bowler a charge down the track. The ball skids through quickly and Pant throws his hands at it wildly and looks to pull. The ball takes a top edge and goes straight into the bread basket of Washington Sundar at deep third.
FOUR! PULLED AWAY! Back of length, pace off delivery, just outside off, Pant pulls it nonchalantly along the ground to deep mid-wicket for four.
STRATEGIC BREAK! It’s been all Lucknow Super Giants so far, and this is just the kind of start the home side would have hoped for. Gujarat Titans have looked off-colour with the ball, and their woes have been compounded by a couple of dropped chances in the field. Spotting the early momentum shift, Shubman Gill has opted for the timeout at the first opportunity, hoping to regroup and slow things down. It did get trickier to bat as the ball got older during GT’s innings, so it will be interesting to see how LSG handle the middle phase from here.

Was that a chance? Mohammed Siraj's reactions suggest so. Full, on the pads, Pant looks to tickle it away but this seems to go only off the pads. Jos Buttler dives to his right but fails to cling on. And guess what? The UltraEdge shows that the ball grazed the inside edge on the way to the keeper. A chance missed by Buttler!
FOUR! Seemed to have gone off the pads but given as runs! On a short of a length, on off, Pant walks across his stumps to lap it over short fine leg and gets himself into a tangle before tumbling over. The ball goes off the thigh pad and clears the leaping Jos Buttler for another boundary.

The bowlers haven't quite stuck to the plans or bowled according to the field settings, allowing the GT openers to dominate proceedings. Rishabh Pant’s bowling changes have yet to make any real impact, and the pressure continues to build. Aiden Markram is brought into the attack now.

Has that come off the bat? Wide given but there was a noise. Rishabh Pant has a word with the bowler and takes the review. This keeps a bit low, sliding onto the pads, Sai Sudharsan swivels for the pull but misses and the ball does seem to have brushed the front pad on the way to the keeper. Rishabh Pant does well to move to his right and take a good low grab. UltraEdge shows no bat but it shows that the ball did brush the front pad. So, the wide call has been reversed.

Here we go!
Impact players nominated by the Gujarat Titans - Prasidh Krishna, Mahipal Lomror, Nishant Sindhu, Anuj Rawat and Jayant Yadav.
Gujarat Titans (Playing XI) - Shubman Gill (C), Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler (WK), Washington Sundar (In for Kulwant Khejroliya), Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Arshad Khan, Rashid Khan, Sai Kishore, Mohammed Siraj.
Impact players nominated by the Lucknow Super Giants - Ayush Badoni, Prince Yadav, Shahbaz Ahamad, Matthew Breetzke and Shamar Joseph.
Lucknow Super Giants (Playing XI) - Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, Rishabh Pant (C/WK), Himmat Singh (In for Mitchell Marsh), David Miller, Digvesh Singh, Abdul Samad, Shardul Thakur, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi.
The captain of the Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, says that they would have bowled first as well but feels that the wicket is not going to change much. Reckons that bowling first is always good as you know the target, but they are fine with batting first. Mentions that every player has contributed in their way, and it is the hallmark of their team that, whenever their team has done well, everyone has chipped in. Shares that it’s all about taking one game at a time and that past wins don't matter much. Adds that it's all about coming on the day and delivering. Informs that Washington Sundar comes in for Kulwant Khejroliya.
Rishabh Pant, the skipper of Lucknow Super Giants, says the wicket looks good and they want to exploit the conditions under the dry sun, and that's the reason he chose to bowl first. Mentions he is very pleased with the last two wins and with the team responding well, they are in the right space to keep moving ahead. Says coming back from a tough position in the last game was a real encouragement and lauds the way the bowlers responded. Concludes that Mitchell Marsh misses out due to personal reasons, making way for Himmat Singh.
TOSS - Lucknow Super Giants have won the toss and they will BOWL first.
PITCH REPORT - Murali Kartik is near the deck. He starts by informing that the square boundaries are uneven, with 63 metres to one side and 70 metres to the other, with the straight hit being 73 metres. Mentions that pitch number 6 will be used for this game. Adds that it is a black soil wicket. Shane Watson joins him, and he says that it is a little bit patchy with a decent covering of grass. Shares that this surface has a nice sheen. Tells that in the previous game between LSG and MI, pacers were effective when they bowled into the surface, and he feels that it is going to be the order of the day. Watson expects a high-scoring game and opines that batting first is the way to go.
Coming to this game, well, this venue has historically been a low-scoring one, and this being an afternoon game, it might further slow down the wicket. So, we might not be in for a run fest. One gets a feeling that this game will be more of a contest between GT’s bowling and LSG’s batting, and the winner of this battle should eventually win the game. So will the Titans juggernaut continue their winning run, or will LSG continue to surprise with another winning performance? We shall find out. Toss and team updates in a bit.
Lucknow Super Giants have won their last 2 games and have now won 3 out of the 5 games they have played. Similar to GT, the stars in the batting have clearly been their top order with Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran, who have done the bulk of the scoring. Their middle and lower order, except for Ayush Badoni, haven’t really fired, and they would be hoping for the likes of Rishabh Pant and David Miller to get amongst the runs now. In their bowling department, Shardul Thakur and the young fearless spinner Digvesh Singh have been the pick of the bowlers for them. Avesh Khan, too, has bowled well in patches. Their lead spinner, Ravi Bishnoi, hasn’t really turned up as yet, and LSG will be hoping for him to find some rhythm.
Gujarat Titans have started the season with a bang, having won 4 out of the 5 games and are sitting at the top of the points table. They have won 4 on the trot, and they would be looking to go 5 in 5. Their top order, consisting of Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler, has consistently fired. In their bowling department, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore have been consistently amongst the wickets. Rashid Khan’s form with the ball was a bit of a concern, but he too was amongst the wickets in the last game.
Hello and welcome to a double-header Saturday in the 2025 Indian Premier League. First up, it’s match number 26, where the Lucknow Super Giants are taking on the Gujarat Titans at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Both teams are high on confidence, as they have managed to get a winning streak going.
... MATCH DAY ...
A high-voltage clash is on the cards as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Ekana Stadium. With both sides stacked with talent and playing some strong cricket this season, fans can expect a pulsating battle in Lucknow. LSG, under the spirited leadership of Rishabh Pant, have shown real intent so far. Pant, who made headlines with his blockbuster IPL deal, has marshaled his troops with flair and aggression but is yet to fire with the bat. At the top, Mitchell Marsh has been in scintillating form, amassing 265 runs in five innings and delivering match-winning starts. Nicholas Pooran continues to shine in the middle order with his consistency and power-hitting and is the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Young spinner Digvesh Rathi has been one of the surprise stars of the season, turning games around with his smart variations and calm under pressure. They also have Akash Deep and Avesh Khan as two experienced pacers while Ravi Bishnoi adds depth to the spin attack. However, in the last game they almost could not defend 238 which is a bit of a concern. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans look sharp and focused. Sai Sudharsan has been their rock with the bat, scoring 273 runs in five matches with poise and authority. He’s held the batting unit together and delivered in crucial moments with Jos Buttler also not that behind with 202 runs. Skipper Shubman Gill has also played some crucial knocks while Sherfane Rutherford provides the firepower in the batting. Mohammed Siraj has roared back into form, leading the bowling charge with 10 wickets in five matches, troubling even the best with his pace and accuracy. Sai Kishore has also picked up 10 wickets while Rashid Khan is still searching for his top form. A face-off between Marsh and Siraj could prove to be a decisive moment in the game. Likewise, the duel between Sudharsan and Rathi promises to be an exciting contest within the contest. The pitch at the Ekana Stadium is known for its balance - early assistance for seamers, some turn for spinners as the game progresses, and enough on offer for batters to cash in if they get set. LSG will look to build on their home advantage and current rhythm, while GT will bank on their consistency and depth to pose a real challenge. With plenty of individual battles, high stakes, and crowd energy expected to be electric, this one promises to be a blockbuster.

Sai Kishore (1-0-24-0) will bowl the final over with LSG needing 6 runs.
